1. Is the Examination pattern changed from 1st July, 2018

The Test Administering Agency for the Limited Insolvency Examination has changed from NISM to NSEIT w.e.f. 01st July 2018 but the pattern of the examination remains the same.

2. Has the syllabus of the Examination changed from 1st November, 2018?

Yes. The syllabus of the Limited Insolvency Examination is reviewed from time to time to keep it relevant. The syllabus has changed for Examinations to be held on or after 1st November, 2018. The updated syllabus is available on the official website of IBBI.

3. Is this examination mandated under any law and for what purpose?

Yes. This examination is mandated under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Professionals) Regulations, 2016 made under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. It is one of the mandatory conditions for registration as an insolvency professional with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

4. What are the eligibility criteria to appear for the examination?

There are no eligibility criteria for appearing in the examination. However, while considering the application for registration as Insolvency Professional the candidate will be governed by the regulations in force at that time.

5. Case laws up to which date are covered in the syllabus?

The case laws as on 31st October, 2018 forms part of the syllabus. A list of case laws of Supreme Court, High Court, NCLAT, NCLT appearing in the examination has been provided in the syllabus of Limited Insolvency Examination w.e.f. 1st November, 2018.

6. Which of the regulations are the parts of the syllabus?

All the regulations that have been notified and amended under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 till 31st October, 2018 are covered in the syllabus.

7. How can I take the IBBI - Limited Insolvency Examination?

You need to go through three stages of taking the examination and follow instructions given on the screen at every stage to proceed further:
Stage - I : Please visit https://ibbiliexam.onlineregistrationform.org/IBBI and Click on 'New User' option.

A Basic Registration page will appear after you read the instructions, where the basic information like your name, email ID, Contact Number, etc will be required to be entered and then submitted. A mail will then be sent to the registered mail ID with the login credentials (email ID and Password defined by you during basic registration). Now the candidate can again visit the registration portal and click on "Registered User" where the PERSONAL DETAILS, EDUCATIONAL DETAILS, OCCUPATIONAL DETAILS and UPLOAD PHOTO, SIGNATURE AND DOCUMENTS activity has to be completed by the candidate. The candidate has to recheck all the details entered before clicking on "Submit Application Form" after which the candidate will not be able to make any changes to the data entered. This is a one- time registration process. No fee is payable for registration.

In case you use the link "www.ibbi.gov.in/limited-insolvency.html" click on "Limited Insolvency Examination w.e.f. 1st November, 2018" and then click on "Register/Enroll for Exam".

Now the page similar to the above URL containing option "New User" will appear where the candidate has to follow the same process as mentioned above to complete the registration process.

Stage - II: Once you decide to appear for the examination visit either of the URL and then reach the option "Registered User" and login with the login credentials created in Stage I. Click on the "Payment" tab and proceed with the payment using either of the payment method ( Credit Card or Debit Card or Net Banking). Once the Payment is successful "Book Seat" tab will become active in the candidate login where the candidate can select Test City, Test Centre Name, Test Date, Test Time, etc and then submit. Candidate can download the Admit Card from the hyperlink under the "candidate Dashboard" tab.

Stage - III: Please carry your Printout of Admit Card, original PAN Card / Aadhaar Card / Driving License / Passport and arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time at the examination centre. Please note that without the Admit Card and the Original Photo Identity proof (mentioned above), candidates shall not be permitted to appear for the Examination. You will be provided with a computer screen with a question paper which carries 87 questions for 100 marks. Each question has four alternative answers. You need to select the correct answer. A wrong answer will give you negative marks. Answer all the 87 questions within two hours and submit the answer paper at any time within the said two hours. If you do not submit the answer paper earlier, the paper will be auto-submitted by the system on expiry of two hours. Immediately on submission of the answer paper or expiry of two hours, whichever is earlier, a temporary mark sheet would be displayed on the computer screen indicating the marks you have scored in the examination. If you score 60 marks or above you would be declared successful in the examination. In that case, you would be issued a pass certificate by the IBBI within 30 days of the examination. You would be eligible to apply for registration as an insolvency professional with the temporary mark sheet and you need not wait to get the pass certificate from the IBBI. If you do not pass the examination and wish to take the examination again, you need to repeat stage II and stage III, as many times as you wish.

8. How do I register without Aadhaar Card?

Aadhaar Card is mandatory without which you will not be able to proceed with the basic registration process itself.

9. What is the fee payable for the examination?

You need to pay a fee of Rs. 5,900 (Rupees Five Thousand Nine Hundred only) effective from 01st October 2022 with every enrolment, online by using Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking.

10. What is the structure of the question paper?

The question paper carries 74 questions of 01 mark each and 13 questions of 02 mark each. You need to answer these 87 questions in 2 hours. Each question is followed by four alternate answers. You need to select the correct answer among these. A correct answer gives you the marks assigned to the question. A wrong answer attracts a negative mark of 25% of the marks assigned to the question. You need to score 60% to pass the examination.

11. I got less than 87 questions in the examination. Kindly clarify.

As per the structure of examination, there are 87 questions of which 8 questions are based on two transaction analysis cases, which appear as two cohesive groups in your examination paper. As the computer system draws these 8 questions as two sets, these appear as two questions, the testing platform displays the question count as less than 87 but when the sub-questions of the case study are taken into account, you would have received a total of 87 multiple choice questions in your examination.

12. Can I have an idea of the structure of the question paper before the examination?

13. When is the examination held?

The examination is available on all days beginning 1st October 2018 from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM from various examination centers across India. To check the availability of date and time at the examination centre of your choice, please visit https://ibbiliexam.onlineregistrationform.org/IBBI.

Steps to check address of a particular Test Centre: Click on "Center Details"- Select State - Select City - Click on "Search" Button - Address will be displayed on the screen.

Steps to check Test Slot Availability: Click on “Centre Details” - Click here to view Slot availability - Select State - Select City - Select Test Centre - Select Test Date - Click on “Submit” button -Availability of Seats will be reflected on the screen.

14. How many times can I take the examination?

You can appear for the examination any number of times till you clear the exam. However, you have to enroll yourself afresh and pay the examination fee for each enrolment.

15. Can I get a refund of the fee, if I do not take the examination?

Refund of the fee is not permissible.

16. How do I prepare for the examination?

The examination is based on the syllabus notified by the IBBI on its website. Please visit http://www.ibbi.gov.in/limited-insolvency.html to find out syllabus. This syllabus will hold good for examinations conducted from 1st November, 2018. You need to be thorough on every part of the syllabus. The IBBI does not provide any study material or workbook for the examination. You may use the books or other resources available on the subject.

17. Can I refer books or other material during the examination?

A candidate is not allowed to carry any examination related material or any other document (including the Admit Card) inside the Test room. This not an open book examination.

18. When will I receive the pass certificate?

On submission of the answer paper, you would see your score on the computer screen. If you have secured 60 % marks or above you would be issued a pass certificate from IBBI within 30 days from the examination.

19. How long is the certificate valid?

The certificate has no expiration date; however, an individual shall be eligible for registration as Insolvency Professional subject to his fulfilling other conditions for eligibility. At present one may not seek registration if he has not passed the Limited Insolvency Examination in the last 12 months.

20. Can I request for re-evaluation of my answer paper?

Since the answer paper is checked by computer without any human intervention, no re-evaluation is allowed. Subject to this, request/s received from a candidate for resolution of doubts about a question forming part of examination will be considered as per the following policy:

  • Candidate's request/s will be considered only when he/she specifically mentions a particular question number or at best two questions numbers which he/she thinks contain errors. Claim/s to re-check more than two questions shall be not permitted unless the substantive material is provided by the candidate as to why he/she considers errors in such questions.
  • No request/s to disclose/discuss question/s and/or their answers shall be entertained as disclosure
    of the question/s will violate the integrity of the question bank, namely, breach the confidentiality/secrecy of the question bank.
  • Only those request/s made on-the-spot (before leaving the test centre) will be considered for verification.
  • When a request is received from a candidate at the Test Centre, it shall be forwarded by the respective Test Administrator to NSEIT.
  • Such matter will then be escalated with the question/answer to IBBI with the details of the nature of the error, the correct version of the question or contested correct answer and system recognized correct answer. IBBI, after due diligence and proper scrutiny, will arrive at a conclusion whether the claim made by a candidate in relation to a question or answer is right.
  • Score computation, kept in abeyance as per point 4, shall be carried based on the approval as per point (5).
  • The above policy and process will be subject to review from time to time and shall be binding and final in relation to any claim and/or matter when disposed of with the approval of the authority of IBBI.

21. What is my scope after clearing the Limited Insolvency Examination?

The Limited Insolvency Examination is one of the pre-conditions of getting registered as an Insolvency Professional with IBBI. Please visit the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Professionals) Regulations, 2016 at www.ibbi.gov.in for more details.

22. What is the date for start of National Insolvency Examination?

The National Insolvency Examination has not been notified yet. Appropriate notification will be released when the examination will be launched by IBBI.

23. Who should I contact for any clarification about the examination?

24. When should I reach at the examination center?

You have to reach 15 minutes prior to the exam start time as mentioned on the Admit Card.

25. How do I check or see the exam slots?

26. How do I download my Admit Card?

After Book seat is done you the option of Candidate Dashboard will be activated on the screen. Click on Candidate Dashboard and then click on "Click here for Admit Card Download" to download the Admit Card.

27. I am unable to select my birth year which is before 1958, what should I do?

You have to first elect the year 1958 and then click on the drop-down button on it where the previous year i.e. years prior to 1958 would appear.
